WOD - 20110601

Randy Was a Blur

Rest Day!

Please feel free to comment on how your fitness has been improving (or not) over the last year.

As we have lost equipment and space, but gained numbers, it has been increasingly difficult to offer the variety that we used to and for that...i am sorry.

A little less variety isn't all bad, however, if we keep our sight on the real goal of CrossFit - Improved fitness!

Improved fitness is defined as "increased work capacity over broad time and modal domains" ... is this happening or not happening for you??

Our prescription will remain "constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity", but our goal of improving fitness is what's MOST important...

So CFM?  How's your fitness?

I'm looking for feedback...cherry pickers need not apply :-p

  1. Okay, I'll take a stab at this. I feel that I'm definitely the fittest I've ever been...lower weight (dropped a size this past year), lower body fat, actually being able to see defined muscles in my mid-section (my problem area), increased muscle mass, increased energy levels, decreased 5K run times, ability to do muliple pullups and regular pushups, when before I could do none. I've always been into working out/fitness, but that used to mean cardio with a somewhat feeble attempt every now and again on the nautilis machines or with small dumbbells. Now I look forward to lifting...not using machines but using barbels and kettlebells. I feel like CrossFit has given me a whole new idea of what fitness is and how it defines me. I'm so thankful to you, Toby, for the time and energy you've poured into CFM over the last year. Thanks for allowing me to enter this new decade (40's) feeling the best I've ever felt! Also, thank you to my CFM family...you're the best and as I wind down my time here in England, I'll never forget you. You all have truly been a blessing to me!!

  2. When i first started coming to CFM and it took me a while to locate you, lol! I thought i'm never going to be able to complete any of the WODs, but know i am slowly but surely, it has improved my fitness level by far,i love it! Just needing help with technique and form but there is always someone wiiling to show and help me- what great people we have in our CFM family. Thank you for letting me be a part of the CFM family!

  3. I've only been part of the CFM family for a short time and I've already surprised myself. I never thought I would lift weights, do band assisted pull ups or even run a 5K.
I want to thank everyone for the support and positive atmosphere. You are all a blessing and I appreciate everything you have done for me.
I look forward to seeing what else I can accomplish (like the dreaded box, aka my nemesis).
And I look forward to meeting you Chief. Thank you for everything you do.

  4. I don't even know where to begin...
I never understood what all the hype was about when Ben or others talked about Crossfit. From my perspective it was just "another fitness program". Now, for only doing CF for 8 months I can't believe all that I have accomplished.
The first few weeks I told myself I needed to finish the WOD's and not necessarly complete them for time or weight. Finishing was a good accomplishment. Now, because of all my personal accomplishments my fitness goals are threw the roof. I look forward to getting my butt kicked daily, is that weird?! :)
I am so thankful that I finally decided to say "yes" to ben, after he asked my a dozen or so times to come check this CF stuff out.
The community, support and family is like none I have even experienced, and I am so thankful to be apart of it.
Beucase we are apart of a military community that is constantly changing, there is going to be changes amoung the affiliations- including people, equipment, etc. As long as we stick together and stick to the foundations of CF we will all be peechy-keen.
Thanks for your time and investment in the CF community Cheif! We all can't thank you enough. You have been the backbone of it all, but it will continue even if your gone. We are all to passionate to let it fall. Thanks for spread the passion :)

  5. Also, becuase we are limited to equipment, I think going to the Hardstand maybe once a week would be good, since they have wallballs and box jumps. That would change it all up a little more.

  6. Heather, hush! Box jumps still scare me.

  7. Chief, I have to say that I truly miss CFM. I never had more fun in the gym. I try to keep up with your programming and its difficult not being there with folks to push you and help you out. Keep up the awesome work! You are changing lives and I wish you all the best;)

  8. I guess I would be a cherry picker...but I would like to suggest tomorrows WOD per mainsite.

    For time:
    50 Pull-ups
    10 Burpees
    40 Pull-ups
    20 Burpees
    30 Pull-ups
    30 Burpees
    20 Pull-ups
    40 Burpees
    10 Pull-ups
    50 Burpees

I will say that the programming is very good for the lmitations given. The focus on strength is the core of what makes crossfit a possibility and I think the chief has done an outstanding job keeping that as a priority. I will say that it has been a pleasure working out with everyone and this gym has the right atmosphere that every CF gym should have. Thanks again chief for taking the time to always support this.

  9. I can't believe how far performance wise I've come...I've been doing crossfit for 11 months now. When I started I could only DL 95lbs- now my PR is 210. I remember barely being able to do one toe-2-bar at a time. I started swinging a 12kg KB now I can comfortably swing a 16kg KB. In the beginning pull ups & double unders were out of the question, now I can do 50 unbroken double unders. Running used to make me SO nervous- not anymore! Those are just are few of the performance gains I've made. I love crossfit and not only for the physical gains I've made but for the amazing friendships I've gained.

I agree with everyone else that we couldnt of made these gains with out you Toby. Thanks for bringing CFM to us. I'll never forget this year with y'all!

  10. Chief, even though I haven't been able to be around much since Paul started Crossfitting with you guys way back when, I definitely feel like the time I have been here has been very beneficial, especially when you guys are around to provide feedback and coaching for the workouts. I can tell I have gotten a lot stronger, especially recently. I've always been into working out and playing sports, even through college, but I feel that Crossfit has really opened a lot of doors for me. I know that being part of CFM has been great for us in terms of physical condition and also the friendships we've made. I've really loved being a part of it all! I really want to thank you for all you have done for us. I know your dedication and sacrifices you've made for CFM have been huge and we're very appreciative of that. You've created some monsters that are obsessed with CF! Even though we're limited in what we can do with the amount of space, equipment and number of people we have a great box and a great team! We are definitely going to miss everyone when we go!!! I'm hoping this next year I am going to be able to train seriously and possibly compete next year...I've got this crazy notion that I can be competitive if I'm able to get on a good schedule and train hard! We'll see :)

  11. So I took a few days, sorry.

I was one big pile of weak sauce prior to May of last year. I had always been of the mindset that as long as I was running I was fine. After many years of listening to good friends who had benefited from Crossfit I decided after returning from leave last year to tuck my tail between my legs and start this crazy CultFit thing. My main goal was to be able to do the new PT standard push ups. At the time I couldn't even do one chest to ground. Now I'm rocking out 150 (broken out)in a WOD.

I remember an early day when it was just me and Chief and it was overhead squat day. He had to place the bar on my shoulders cuz I couldn't get it there myself. And forget about actually getting it over my head. Ridiculous!

I feel myself getting stronger every day. I love the camaraderie of the group. I'm grateful that I finally understand this Chief guy a little better ;-) No matter what equipment we do or don't have he has always found a way to bring the suck regardless.

Thanks for your dedication and my awesome guns!
